WATCH: Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson star in first trailer for ‘Kong: Skull Island’
For those of us who needed reminding of the fact that Tom Hiddleston is an actual movie actor with actual roles beyond posing as Taylor Swift’s lover of questionable legitimacy, the first trailer for Kong: Skull Island dropped over the weekend at San Diego Comic Con. And we’ve gotta admit, it looks mega.
Also starring Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly – who make up a team of humans venturing deep inside the primordial home of the mythic king of the apes after making an unexpected crash landing on Skull Island – this latest reimagining of the 1930s legend follows a story honouring the existing King Kong lore, while placing it in a new and distinct timeline from what we’ve already seen in, say, Peter Jackson’s 2005 epic.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts warns that this will also be the biggest Kong that viewers have ever seen:
“From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore. Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island”.
The trailer accompanies a new poster for the film, which was unveiled in the lead up to the Warner Bros. panel at SDCC.
Kong: Skull Island is set to hit theatres in 3D in March 2017.
