WATCH: Jude Law declares himself God as The Young Pope gets new extended trailer
Obviously a TV series from The Great Beauty director Paolo Sorrentino, which also stars Jude Law in its titular role, and is a joint production from Sky, HBO and Canal+, was going to get our attention. But now the new extended trailer for The Young Pope has finally arrived, and it lives up to the hype, evoking House of Cards meets The Sopranos with a little Game of Thrones thrown in kinda vibes.
Law stars as Lenny Belardo; the youngest and first American Pope in history, who prepares to enter into the power struggles inside the closed, secretive Vatican state. The trailer shows Belardo lining up his moves in the proverbial chess game that is the papacy, while also engaging in such un-Pope-like activities as smoking and calling himself God.
“You’ll be a terrible Pope. The worst!”, chides L.A. Confidential‘s James Cromwell as Belardo’s rival Cardinal Michael Spencer, while we also get to see Diane Keaton in action as Sister Mary and Silvio Orlando as Cardinal Voiello.
We look forward to seeing how the drama unfolds when the much anticipated 10-part series premieres on Thursday 27th October on Sky Atlantic.
