Walking Dead boss teases multiple deaths in season 7 premiere
Walking Dead Executive Producer Greg Nicotero has suggested there will be more than one death in the series seven premiere of the hit horror show.
The Walking Dead infamously ended its sixth season with the brutal murder of a character from Rick’s group, but was shot in such a way it was impossible to identify which character had suffered. The cliffhanger proved controversial with fans, and now Nicotero may have dropped a huge hint in his defence of the scene.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the backlash against the cliffhanger, Nicotero said: “I’d say in retrospect, I don’t think we would have changed anything. I would have still supported doing it the way that we did it, because of the fact that the story doesn’t end there.
“If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season seven the way they need to.
Deaths? The cliffhanger only indicated one death, so could we be in for an enormous surprise? Could Negan murder two, three, or more victims? In the comics upon which The Walking Dead was based, only one person – Glenn – meets Negan’s barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat. However, the show has been known to change scenes from the comics to make them more surprising or gruesome. A multiple murder would certainly do that.
Nicotero could also be referring to other deaths within the episode, perhaps not by Negan’s hand. It would be cruelly ironic, after all, for a character to survive that ordeal and then be ripped apart by a walker minutes later.
It could also be a slip of the tongue. We don’t think we’ll stop speculating until the series returns to FOX UK on October 24.
