Twitter now has a new feature to help you avoid TV spoilers
There is nothing that gets a TV fan’s blood boiling more than a spoiler, and unfortunately sometimes one cannot escape them on the utter spoiler-minefield that is Facebook or Twitter.
However, Twitter may have just installed a new feature to solve all our problems: muting. The social media site now allows users to mute words, phrases and hashtags from their timeline and notifications, meaning we can now effectively block out all those unwanted TV spoilers! Hallelujah!
You can mute words, phrases, and hashtags for a set time period in your timeline and notifications.

As well as hiding specific words and hashtags, the muting feature also allows users to set a chosen time period in which they will disappear from your timeline, so you don’t have to worry about blocking out certain topics forever.
And Twitter has covered all bases, too. The setting also ensures that content will disappear from the notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, email notifications, home timeline and replies as well.
However, it is important to add that the muting feature will not block those words if you put them into the search bar… but a true spoiler-avoider knows better than to do this anyway!
Muted words are also case-insensitive, so all iterations will be blocked, and users can mute individual accounts as well.
So, there we have it! You can rest easy next time you need to catch up on a TV show.
