JK Rowling Confirms “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
JK Rowling has confirmed that a Harry Potter stage play, entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will open in London next year.
Rowling made the announcement on Twitter this morning (26.06.15), which just so happens to be the eighteenth anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone being published in the UK.
“I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. However, I can say that it is not a prequel!”, said the author, quashing rumours that have been spreading around since the play’s first announcement in 2013.
Rowling also insisted that the stage show won’t be a musical. However she is confident that the new Cursed Child story is better suited to the stage than the page.
“To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – why isn’t #CursedChild a new novel?
“I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”
Meanwhile, Rowling has been busy writing the script for Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which will star Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston.
