Strictly Come Dancing’s Bruno Tonioli threatened to quit after last week’s results
Bruno Tonioli was reportedly outraged by the results of last weekend’s show, and stormed out of the Strictly studio.
The commotion was all caused by Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom’s shock exit on Sunday. After it was announced that Anastacia would not be able to partake in the dance off due to an injury, the bottom two celebrity and professional couples were put to the public vote and Odoom was forced to leave the competition.
A Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson explained: “There was no dance-off tonight due to a confirmed injury. As per the Strictly Come Dancing rules if the dance-off cannot go ahead then the result reverts to the viewer vote.”
The result caused controversy amongst the viewing public, with former Strictly professionals Ola and James Jordan even taking to Twitter to vocalise their dismay. However, it seems it wasn’t just the viewers at home who were upset with the result.
Judge Bruno Tonioli was said to be livid with the decision by producers to axe the dance-off and send Odoom home. Tonioli allegedly fled the set to his car and demanded to be taken home.
A source told the Daily Star: “The studio audience had no idea about the backstage drama.”
Tonioli soon calmed down, however, and returned to the panel alongside the other judges as Odoom was eliminated.
Odoom and his dancing partner Janette Manrara have admitted they were “really sad” at the way they left the show, but insisted they did not hold any grudges towards the programme’s producers.
Manrara assured viewers: “It’s no one’s fault.”
She continued: “We love Anastacia and we love Brendan and we wish her the best for a speedy recovery.”
Odoom also talked about how he was recovering from the disappointment of Sunday’s show. When asked about how he was now feeling, he replied: “Better. It was a really sad day over the weekend.”
The radio DJ added: “It’s really sad to be in this position right now … we wanted to go out there and dance like it was our last dance on earth. Everyone has been amazing.”
…But the show must go on! The contestants and judges alike must now put the drama of last week behind them as they get ready for this weekend’s themed episode of Strictly: Movie Week. With songs, routines and costumes inspired by famous films, we are sure this week’s show is set to be a spectacular one.
