Strictly bosses add tricky new challenge to series in bid to get Ed Balls booted off
The fans have spoken and despite being continually voted down by the Strictly Come Dancing judges, politician Ed Balls is down to the last six of the dancing competition.
Now, a new report suggests that there is a plot afoot at the BBC to get the politician, who is known for his energetic and entertaining performances, off the show once and for all.
It has been announced that for the first time ever, a new challenge has been added to this weekend’s performance wherein all remaining couples will dance the Cha Cha simultaneously. They will then be graded best to worst by the Strictly judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood, with 1-6 points being added to their scores depending on placements.
A source told The Sun: “The challenge is almost definitely set to place Ed bottom of the judge’s leaderboard.
“He’s the worst dancer on paper and even if he nails his rehearsed dance, he’s set to be voted off by judges.”
Balls previously struggled with performing the Cha Cha during Strictly‘s Halloween Week, during which he and partner Katya Jones placed second from the bottom with 26 points.
Although Balls’ popularity with Strictly fans may have kept him his place in the competition so far, following last Sunday’s results some called for him to quit the show on moral grounds, as John Seargeant did in 2008.
One fan on Twitter posted: “Be the bigger man @edballs and do a @John sergeant and bow out now I like you but better dancers should stay in #Strictly.”

While another said: “#strictly Ed Balls would go up hugely in my estimation if he took a dignified ‘John Sergeant’ exit.”

However, Balls rejected calls to depart the show in an interview with Lorraine Kelly on Tuesday, saying: “I think I’ve got to be respectful to people voting for me. I’m trying really hard and trying to get better every week.”
