Sons of Anarchy Spinoff in the Works
The long-rumoured Sons of Anarchy spinoff is actually happening.
Creator of the popular, gritty motorcycle drama, Kurt Settor will executive produce the follow-up drama that will continue take place in Northern California.
However, rather than re-focusing on SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original), this secondary show will be based around the Hispanic gang known as the Mayans – who refer to themselves as the Assassins of God – and who were among the many enemies of SAMCRO throughout Sons of Anarchy’s seven seasons.
FX is not yet revealing whether the Mayans spinoff will be a prequel or a sequel to last December’s Sons of Anarchy series finale, or if the show will take the form of a mini-series rather than a continuing drama. Though, Sutter has previously said that he is interested in making a SAMCRO prequel series, although he stressed that “the timing of it really depends” on the success of his upcoming medieval drama The Bastard Executioner.
The Bastard Executioner will bring back Sons of Anarchy regulars Katey Sagal and Timothy V Murphy in its tale of a spurned knight in the court of King Edward I. And if that wasn’t enough, reports emerged last week that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam could have “a little arc” on The Bastard Executioner in the future.
The Bastard Executioner premieres in the US on September 15 on FX.
