SNEAK PEEK: Who will be crowned Great British Bake Off champion in tonight’s final?
The Great British Bake Off final has arrived, so here is a sneak peek at what you can expect from the concluding episode.
We cannot quite believe it is already here, but the last ever episode of the BBC’s Great British Bake Off is finally here tonight (Wednesday) and one contestant will be crowned the 2016 champion. There have, as always, been some fantastic characters this year on Bake Off and we have already had to say some emotional goodbyes to some of our favourite bakers (anyone else still mourning the loss of Selasi?). But now twelve contestants have dwindled down to three, and it will be Jane Beedle, Andrew Smyth and Candice Brown battling it out for the title.
The pressure will be on like never before for the three finalists tonight, but who will step up to the plate and impress Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood the most?
Let’s have a look at what exactly is in store for this last, very special episode of Bake Off:
A royal theme:
The theme for the final is ‘Royal Bake Off’, featuring three challenges to impress the Queen. The royal theme does feel appropriate for the final episode of the series, especially since former winner Nadiya Hussain actually made the Queen’s Birthday cake this year.
The signature challenge:
The last signature challenge of the series sounds closer to a showstopper than a signature, as we will see the final three take on meringues with a whopping three-tier meringue masterpiece. Not only this, but Andrew, Candice and Jane will be expected to put their own unique flair on their creation, choosing their own style and flavours.
The technical challenge:
Mary is taking no prisoners in the ultimate technical challenge of the series. The judge will leave the finalists stunned when she presents them with a recipe that contains only one, single instruction. Oh, Mary. You might look cute…
Of course, the BBC will have to go out with a bang and it looks like this episode’s showstopper could be the one to end all showstoppers. Viewers have been promised “the most complex one ever seen on Bake Off” with “the most bakes ever requested in a challenge”.
Oh, and only five hours in which to complete it all. Eek.
And the winner is…
Sticking to true Bake Off tradition, the previous contestants return to the tent for the final challenge of the series, joined by the family and friends of the finalists.
Finally, the winner of The Great British Bake Off is revealed! Mary and Paul will announce the 2016 champion in front of family, friends and fellow bakers and no doubt there will be lots of tears, both inside the tent and in the homes of the viewers watching.
Are you team Andrew, team Candice, or team Jane?
The Great British Bake Off concludes tonight (Wednesday) at 8pm.
