Sky to bare-all with Behind-the-Scenes Documentary Series on Muppets
Sky 1 looks to lift the lid on Muppet life, as it is revealed the channel will be the exclusive home of an all-new documentary-style ABC Studios series The Muppets in the UK and Ireland this Autumn.
For the first time, cameras will document the ups and downs of the Muppets’ day-to-day lives as they prepare to reunite for a new TV series, with the personal lives of beloved characters Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and co. expected to be dissected and explored.
According to Sky sources, The Muppets uncovers what the gang get up to at home and at work; the romances, the breakups, the achievements, the disappointments, the wants, the desires – and everything else in between, with Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky 1 saying: “Get ready to see the Muppets like you’ve never seen them before – with no-holds-barred access as they prepare for their big reunion, The Muppets promises a candid look at what goes on before and after they start the music and light the lights!”
The acquisition is a big move for both Sky and The Muppets, with Dayna Donaldson of Media Distribution Disney UK and Ireland stating: “The addition of The Muppets to Sky’s schedule builds on our long, successful relationship with the UK broadcaster.
“We are delighted to bring the much-loved characters and universally cheeky storylines to Sky’s already powerful slate of Disney content across the Sky portfolio, including Sky Movies Disney and ABC Studios’ Scandal and Criminal Minds.”
Several industry heavyweights such as Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Anger Management) are expected to be involved, with Prady and Kushell both co-writers and executive producers while Randall Einhorn (Wilfred), Bill Barretta, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin will also be executive producers.
The Muppets will debut on ABC in the US on 22nd September, and the UK and Ireland later in the year.
