REVIEW: American Pickers is the ultimate treasure hunt
The ultimate treasure hunt show, American Pickers, airs weekdays at 4pm on BLAZE.
American Pickers is an entrancing reality television series following the lives of antique pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, as they travel the US looking for hidden treasures. They locate, buy and sell on objects of value and prestige for either their own private collections or a tidy profit.
What really works about American Pickers is the enthusiasm and chemistry between Wolfe and Fritz. They’re easygoing, charismatic and full of passion for what they do. They’re knowledgeable without being overbearing, and share the secrets of successful buys and sales – including dos and don’ts of treasure hunting. They’re also keen friends, bouncing off one another with infectious enthusiasm.
The series is also in part a history lesson, offering facts and backgrounds on discovered items.
We also learn about bargaining with sellers, building relationships with potential business partners and how to locate valuable items.
Travelling across the US means there’s a lot of insight into people and places the average Brit may never get to see. On their hunts, Wolfe and Fritz meet an assortment of interesting characters selling items of all shape, size and background. American Pickers is never static this way – every episode there are different finds and different sellers to bargain with.
American Pickers is a pleasure to watch. Every episode is something new, there’s always something to learn and the passion of the hosts is totally infectious.
