The most talked about moment from the ceremony, however, has to be when the Best Picture Award was handed to the wrong winner.
Warren Beatty mistakenly announced that La La Land had bagged the prize trophy, but realisation soon dawned on everyone mid-way through the acceptance speech.
It turns out that Moonlight was the actual victor, but the wrong envelope had accidentally been handed over before the announcement.
Beatty explained what had happened: “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took a long look at Faye [Dunaway]. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
Props to La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz, however, who graciously said he was “proud” to be handing the award to Moonlight.
