Tulisa sues Britney Spears and will.i.am
Tulisa has successfully sued Britney Spears and will.i.am over songwriting credits.
The N-Dubz star claimed in 2012 that she helped co-write Spears and will.i.am’s hit song ‘Scream and Shout’. Her legal battle to claim rights for the song continued for five years, with all profits made from the song frozen from that date.
‘Scream and Shout’ was released in November 2012 and hit number one on the UK charts. However, the song was reportedly originally called “I Don’t Give A Fuck” and scheduled to appear on Tulisa’s 2012 solo album The Female Boss.
However, track producer Lazy Jay did not want her to have the track and instead gave it to will.i.am, who rewrote it for Britney Spears.
The new version of the song did not credit Tulisa’s work, despite the fact, according to Tulisa, it still contained some of the lines she wrote.
Speaking about the situation in December 2012 to MTV News, will.i.am admitted: “She wrote to that song before I did – this is the truth. But the producers of the beat… didn’t want her to have it.”
Tulisa has been awarded 10% of the worldwide publishing rights and income from the song, for which profits are no longer frozen.
Tulisa previously starred as a judge on The X Factor in 2011, while will.i.am has been a judge on The Voice UK since 2012.
