Max von Sydow Joins Game of Thrones
Academy Award-nominated Max von Sydow is the latest big name addition to the massive Game of Thrones cast.
In the hit fantasy drama, von Sydow is set to take the part of the Three Eyed Raven in season six. He takes over from Struan Rodger, who played the role briefly in the season four finale.
The Three Eyed Raven is a crucial part of Bran Stark’s storyline, having been the subject of the character’s prophetic dreams since very early on in the series (though in raven, rather than human form). After four seasons, Bran came face to face with the man at the end of the fourth season and was told he would never walk again, but will fly.
After catching up with the books on Bran’s story, the character was absent through the entirety of season five. Isaac Hempstead Wright confirmed that Bran’s story would finally continue in season six.
Max von Sydow has played many iconic roles in cinema and has been nominated twice for an Academy Award. His impressive resume includes The Seventh Seal (1957); Through a Glass Darkly (1961); The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965); The Quiller Memorandum (1966); The Emigrants (1971); Eblekrigen (The Applewar) (1971); The Exorcist (1973); Three Days of the Condor (1975); Flash Gordon (1980); Never Say Never Again (1983); Dune (1984); Hannah and Her Sisters (1986); Pelle the Conqueror (1987); Awakenings (1990); Minority Report (2002) and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2012).
