Dancing on Ice’s Antony Cotton “couldn’t breathe” after “horrendous” training accident
Dancing on Ice star Antony Cotton has spoken about his terrifying training accident, admitting: “I physically couldn’t breathe”.
The Coronation Street actor was rushed to hospital after fractioning his ribs in an ice-skating accident on Wednesday, but is still determined to compete in the ITV competition.
Appearing alongside his skating partner Brandee Molto on This Morning today, the pair spoke about the “horrendous” accident.
Antony explained: “It was a mishap. It was nobody’s fault. There were two of us in this tango. We basically fell backwards and Brandee landed on top of me and crushed me.
“I knew it was bad. I physically couldn’t breathe. I was making this odd noise. I said, ‘Brandee get help’. I had ice skates on. We were in the middle of the rink. It’s horrendous pain.”
Brandee had worried she may have even killed her skating partner after the fall.
“I was so scared,” she said. “I really thought I’d killed him because he couldn’t breathe. He was just lying on the ice. He was telling me to get help but I didn’t want to leave him. We were training.”
Despite the pain, Antony refuses to quit and is adamant to carry on with the show. He said: “Brandee’s come all the way from California. I’m not going without a fight.
“They said it’s up to me. I want us to do well. So we’ve got straight back on. It’s about four to six weeks [to mend].
“I’ve got no fear of the ice and of getting back on. I’m not frightened. It hurts now, it’s painful – laughing and coughing. [But] we’ve rehearsed and we are ready to go! We want a real vote.”
Dancing on Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
