Cold Feet celebrates 20th anniversary and it is confirmed season 7 will return this year
As ITV celebrates the 20th anniversary of Cold Feet, creator Mike Bullen confirms that the well-loved British comedy series will return in 2017.
It is fair to say that last year’s revival of Cold Feet was a total triumph, having been described as ITV’s “most successful drama launch of 2016”. And now the show’s creator has revealed that the gang will be back on our screens this year, with filming already underway in Manchester.
To fans’ delight, the cast have reunited once again as they begin working on the upcoming seventh series, which airs 14 years after the original love story bowed out in 2003.
On Cold Feet‘s 20th anniversary, Mike Bullen reflected on the history of the show and how this has impacted on his writing of the reboot. He said: “Twenty years ago, when Cold Feet began, I was just trying to write a show that would amuse and hopefully move my own generation. That remains the aim. It’s just that, with the passage of time, we’re a generation older.
“We don’t face the same issues, but there are still issues to be faced. I think that’s why the reboot worked. We weren’t a tribute act to ourselves; we’ve still got something to say. I’ve met quite a few viewers who knew of the show because their parents watched the original, and are now fans in their own right. I get a huge buzz out of that.”
Bullen also spoke last year about the absence of Rachel Bradley (Helen Baxendale) from the contemporary series: “I wanted to find a way of doing Cold Feet with the original six.”
“So even the third version of the first script for this series still had Helen as Rachel in it, in the way we did in the last episode of the last series. That she appeared in Adam’s mind.
“I sent that script to Helen to say, ‘Do you want to do it?’ She was very sweet about the script but she said, no, it wasn’t for her.
“And I’m pleased she did because it was the right decision both for her and the show. I was clinging to something that we needed to let go of.
“But Rachel was such a key part of the show and to all those characters. So it is inevitable that she is in their thoughts at times. I’m sure Adam thinks of her every day.”
Cold Feet will return later this year to ITV.
