Celebrities pay tribute to Caroline Aherne
The awful news of Caroline Aherne’s death was announced this weekend. The comedian, writer and actress died aged 52 after suffering from cancer.
She is best known for her comedy character Mrs Merton as well as ditsy Denise Royal on The Royle Family. More recently, she had lent her voice to commentating on Gogglebox, making viewers laugh with her witty comments and warm charm.
Tributes of love and grief have poured in from the showbiz world, many from actors and TV personalities who had worked closely with Caroline.
Playing at a concert in Nashville, Noel Gallagher dedicated the Oasis song “Half the World Away” to her. The song was used as the theme tune to The Royle Family.
I want to dedicate the following song to a friend of mine who died this afternoon, her name was Caroline. She was a very, very funny woman and she used this next song for a very, very, very, very brilliant sitcom in England called The Royle Family.
Many of her friends and admirers tweeted their support:
Goodbye great Caroline Aherne. A gift & language that lives on.
“A vegetarian? That’s a shame. Could she have some wafer-thin ham, Barbara?”
