BBC announce new cooking show to rival The Great British Bake Off
The BBC has just announced a brand new cookery show: The Big Family Cooking Challenge.
After recently losing the Great British Bake Off to rival broadcaster Channel 4, there has been much speculation as to whether the BBC will be introducing their own replacement bakery show. Now it looks as though the replacement show will take the form of a family cooking show.
BBC bosses have explained how the title is still a working progress, but the temporarily named The Big Family Cooking Challenge will see amateur families compete with one another to become the nation’s best home cooks.
The BBC’s Acting Head of Formats and Features Donna Clark said: “I’m thrilled to be taking food competitions in a different direction.
“A passion for food starts in the family kitchen and this format will take us into homes up and down the country, where we’ll meet Britain’s most passionate and exciting families of cooks.”
The show aims to be a “feel-good show full of character and warmth with authentic home cooking at its heart”.
Although the content of the new show differs considerably from Bake Off, it looks like the BBC are instead hoping to replicate the well-loved programme’s charm and character, which many fans are concerned will disappear now that Mary Berry and Mel and Sue are not following the programme over to Channel 4.
And perhaps Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will be getting involved with the new family cooking show? Indeed, it has been rumoured that the three lovely ladies have been working on a new series with the BBC.
So, do not fear! Even though we are heading towards the final ever BBC episode of Bake Off next Wednesday, we can still live in hope that Mary, Mel and Sue will be returning to our screens soon.
The Great British Bake Off continues Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
